The education of your little Super Scientist is what will let them achieve their dreams and reach for the stars. One of the most popular and powerful methods of teaching is through STEM/STEAM. An easy to remember acronym that lists out some of the most important fields of study for your child. But what exactly is STEAM and why is so awesome? Let’s find out!
Why is fire hot? What is salt made of? How far away is the Moon from Earth? The curiosity of your child is boundless and unending. These Super Scientists in the making are asking the same questions that puzzled great minds like Isacc Newton, Marie Curie and Stephen Hawking. The world of science lets your child explore all of those curiosities bouncing around in their head and gives them the means to find the answer. Today’s “why is fire hot?” is tomorrow’s “how do we cure cancer?”
The vast world of technology surrounds us and is involved in everything we do. But not just the cellphone in your hand and the car you drive to work. From the humble spoon to the latest iPad and everything in between, technology is here. Through technology, your little Super Scientist can start answering those questions that fill their waking moments. Sometimes, the technology can help us complete a task; like a hammer to a nail. Other times, the technology can be the final result of hard work; like the first car.
The Hoover Dam, an airplane, your very home — all wonders of the power of engineering. Once we have the scientific information, we can combine with the tools of technology to construct great wonders. From the design of large cities, to making sure the medicine in each bottle does it’s job, engineering is the cabin we build with the Lincoln Logs of science and technology.
A recent addition to the STEM/STEAM field, art is so important to development and expression. As your Super Scientist gets their hands and minds into the various parts of STEM, it can become quite rigid. The rules of science and their applications can begin to frame things into a box. Art allows them to move outside of that box and truly be free. Writing, painting, photography, and music give that freedom of creativity. It is then through that creativity that they can start to use their skills of science, technology, and engineering to change the world.
The universe is still full of things that are not understood. While science can help us search for those answers, it is math that helps us show others what we have found. Math can actually be thought of as the language of science. It is what helps us be able to tell someone that if we have some apples that we actually have four apples. Beyond that, math can tell us how much force gravity has or what the speed of light is!
STEAM programs help your child realize their potential and grow their minds in a healthy, engaging environment. If you’d like to learn how your Super Scientist can enroll in their school’s STEAM program, contact us.
